The catamaran experience

Two hulls, a lot more room

Quick answer

A catamaran rests on two hulls, so it rolls far less at anchor than a single-hull yacht and offers a wide, flat deck with shade, trampoline nets and easy steps down to the water. That makes catamarans a favorite in Cabo for snorkeling days, families, celebrations and large groups.

Most of what makes a day on the water pleasant comes down to space and steadiness. Because a catamaran's two hulls sit far apart, the deck between them is broad and level, which means room for a long lunch table, a lounge area, sunbathing nets at the bow and a shaded salon, all on one boat. Guests who are not regular boaters often find the gentler motion reassuring, especially when the boat is anchored for swimming.

Swim steps at the stern sit close to the waterline, so climbing in and out after snorkeling is easy for most ages. Larger event catamarans add an upper deck, a bar and enough open floor for a ceremony, a band or a dance floor, which is why they are the usual choice for weddings and company events of 50 guests or more.

Please read before planning around a specific vessel

The catamarans on this page show what is typically available through Yachts Los Cabos; they are not a guarantee that a particular boat can be booked on your date. Vessels in Cabo are regularly sold, relocated, taken out of service for maintenance or reserved by other clients, so a boat listed here may be unavailable when you contact us.

Guest capacities are the maximum listed for each boat, and the comfortable number for a seated meal or a ceremony may be lower. Bar service, menus, water toys and other features vary by vessel and can change. Rates vary with the season, date, charter length and demand, and are usually higher from December through April and on holidays.

Availability, capacity, inclusions, extras, price, boarding point and the cancellation and weather terms are all confirmed in writing in your quote before you book. If the boat you prefer is not available, we will propose the closest alternatives in size and style.

What a charter usually includes

Crew, fuel and the gear for a swim

Every catamaran we present is operated by a licensed captain and crew, and fuel is normally part of the charter rate. Snorkel gear is typically provided whenever snorkeling is part of the plan. Beyond that, each boat is different:

  • Water toys vary by vessel and may include floating mats, noodles, kayaks and paddleboards, with jet skis on some boats.
  • Bar and food range from snacks and an open bar to Mexican cuisine, gourmet catering and a professional chef, as listed on each boat.
  • Sound and lighting come standard on the party and event catamarans.
  • Decorations and wedding setups can be arranged on suitable boats.

If something specific matters to your group, such as kayaks, a vegetarian menu or a particular playlist setup, mention it in your request and we will match you with a boat that offers it, then confirm it in writing.

Questions & answers

Catamaran charters, answered

What guests ask most when comparing catamarans in Cabo San Lucas.

Ask us something else

A catamaran has two hulls, which gives it a wide, level deck and less rolling at anchor. A motor yacht has a single hull, usually travels faster and often has more enclosed interior space. Catamarans tend to suit snorkeling days and larger groups; motor yachts suit couples, luxury cruising and covering more coastline. See the comparison table above or browse the yacht fleet.

Many guests find a catamaran more comfortable because the two hulls reduce side-to-side rolling, particularly at anchor. No boat can promise a motion-free day, so anyone prone to seasickness should take their usual precautions, and your captain will favor sheltered spots when conditions allow.

Listed capacities range from 12 guests on the 42' Trimaran and 43' Belize up to 120 guests on the 100' Party Catamaran. The figure shown is the maximum for each boat; for seated meals or ceremonies, plan on fewer guests than the maximum.

The sailing models, including the 42' Trimaran, 43' Belize and 52' Leopard, can hoist sails when the wind cooperates, and the 74' Classic Sailing Vessel is a traditional two-masted sailing ship. Power catamarans and event boats cruise under engine. If sailing matters to you, say so and we will suggest the right boat.

A licensed captain and crew are included, fuel is normally part of the rate, and snorkel gear is typically provided when snorkeling is planned. Bar service, food, water toys, sound systems and decorations vary by boat. Your written quote lists exactly what is included and what is optional.

Yes, when sea conditions allow. The captain anchors in a sheltered bay and guests swim from the stern steps. Many boats also carry floating mats, noodles, kayaks or paddleboards. Visibility and sea state change daily, so the crew chooses the best spot on the day.

The 47' Party Cat and Neon Moon Party Cat are designed for celebrations, with sound systems and open bars, and the 49' Special Event Catamaran offers a stylish lounge setting. For larger groups, the 60' Event Catamaran hosts up to 50. Our private celebrations page has more ideas.

For ceremonies and receptions, couples usually compare the 60' Event Catamaran (up to 50 guests), 110' The Deck (up to 80), the Event Wedding Boat (up to 100, with a wedding setup listed) and the 100' Party Catamaran (up to 120). Visit our yacht wedding page for planning details.

Catamarans are popular with families because the decks are wide and stable, shade is plentiful and the swim steps are easy to use. Life jackets and child sizes should be confirmed in advance, and parents remain responsible for supervising children on board and in the water.

Yes. During the humpback season, typically from about mid-December to mid-April, a private catamaran is a comfortable platform for watching whales, with room on deck for everyone to see. Sightings are never guaranteed, and the crew keeps a respectful distance from the animals.

As early as you can, especially for high season from December through April, holidays and weekends, and for the large event catamarans, which are limited in number. Last-minute requests are welcome too; we will tell you honestly what is still available.

Boats are sold, relocated, serviced or booked by other clients, and the page cannot change in real time. That is why every booking starts with a written confirmation of the specific vessel and date. If your first choice is unavailable, we suggest comparable boats.
